WHY?

Assalamualaikum.

Bismillah.

Why we must studying Sirah Rasulullah (History of the Prophets)? First of all, what is Sirah? Sirah means a path one takes from one place to another, a path a person takes during his or her life time, includes attitudes, behavior, reactions and biography. So, studying Sirah is the top one way to increase our love for Prophet  (.  There are no other ways as powerful and effective to replenish our love to Prophet (ص)  than by studying his life and times. From the Sirah, we can gain religious knowledge, we can learn about manners, morals and how and where we must proceed our knowledge by  the Quran and hadith. Also, from the Sirah we get to know how he was as a leader. What are the advantages of learning this subject in one’s life? There are three advantages to this.

Firstly, helps us to understand and educates us about the meaning of the Quran. The Quran is a very profound book and it cannot be understood without context. The Quran in some ways depends on the Sirah for it is full explanation or meaning. It sheds light on why the verse was revealed and the context of the revelation. In order to get a full understanding of the Quran we need to get a full understanding of the Sirah as well. The Sirah gives explanation, so understanding and knowing about Sirah will help us to understand these verse. For instance of surah al Ahzab, Al Imran, An Nisa and so on the words dealing with the battles.

Secondly, His life illustrates the methodological steps of the Islamic movement.
As we can see the step in Rasulullah (ص) life, the  steps in establishment of islam and of the islamic state. The stages in da’wah. It is important for us to understand this, as it was divinely directed, so it is the best guadience for us, on how to practice and establish islam. These events were all planned by Allah SWT. The Quran and Sunnah are verbal teachings. How to apply? We need look at the application of these  teachings into action, and we find all of this in life of Rasulullah (ص) and companions. Apart from that studying Sirah is ibadah, insyaAllah if we attend a halaqa of Sirah, it is a gathering of dzikr. It is a gathering of angels. We are surrounded by mercy and tranquility. Everything you do to develop this love will be a source of reward for you.

Finally, the Sirah raises our hopes, litfs our spirits and our Iman. After studying the torture and turmoil that companions and the Prophet (ص) went through, it helps us during our times of troubles and turmoil. It gives us hope that as long as we stay upon the truth there is always hope at the end. Allah SWT reminds the Prophet in the Quran of the stories of the Prophet of the past and you find that the Prophet (ص) Iman increasing due this. Allah says : ‘And all we relate to you of the accounts of the messengers is to trengthen your heart therewith; and in this has come to you the truth and an admonition, and a reminder to the believers’ Surah Hud : 120.

In short, by studying Sirah Rasulullah, is the life of the greatest. Rasulullah (ص) was the greatest man on earth. Michael Hart wrote a book called ‘The 100: A ranking of the Most Influential Person in History’. Loving him is ibadah, part of obeying Allah SWT and it is part of our deen. Allah says: ‘Certainly you have in the Messenger of Allah an excellent exemplar for him who hopes in Allah and latter day and remember Allah much’ – Surah Ahzab : 21. We must studying Sirah for future and our daily life. If not now, then when?
